Tigers are in, White Sox out of postseason

After a hard-fought battle, the Detroit Tigers clinched their postseason spot on October 1, keeping the team's World Series hopes alive. As Jose Valverde ended the game, the team poured onto the field to rejoice in the victory.

On the other end of the spectrum, however, were the Chicago White Sox. The team shut out the Indians on Monday, 11-0, but it was too little, too late. It was a shocking end to the year for the Sox, who had led their division for more than two straight months this season.

The Tigers instead took the AL Central title with their win against Kansas City, 6-3.

Manager Jim Leyland told The Associated Press after the game, "It was a rocky road, it was a tough season, but in this business, you have to be able to take some hits. This isn't a place for the faint-hearted. Hell, we took a lot of punches, a lot of them justified, some of them maybe not. But hey, we can take a punch."

It's likely that they will have to take many more to make it to the end of the road this year, as they have the lowest record of the AL division winners and will thus face off against the second-best team in the AL during the American League Division Series.

Not to be discouraged, Cabrera told the media outlet, "We wanted to win this game. That was our goal, to win this one. We did it."

One thing, it seems, is certain: all eyes will be on Cabrera tonight, as the Triple Crown is his to lose. During Monday night's game, he took the lead in home runs, the third and final hurdle to the remarkable feat.

As athletes are upgrading their gear for the new season, they need to make sure they are taking good care of their investments. To do this, athletes everywhere are using Cleatskins cleat covers so they don't need to worry about damaging their cleats or other special athletic footwear, such as cycling, basketball, wrestling, cheer and volleyball shoes. Cleatskins make great gifts for athletes and are fashioned to fit a wide selection of athletic footwear.
